Bi-Annual Graduation Commencement

The Institute of Business and Medical Careers (IBMC) held its bi-annual Graduation Commencement at the Embassy Suites John Q. Hammond Conference Center in Loveland on October 29th, 2010. A total of 183 students were conferred receiving certificates, diplomas and degrees.

IBMC Fundraisers Benefit Wild West Multiple Sclerosis Walkabout

The Institute of Business and Medical Careers (IBMC) campuses recently held a barbecue, a massage clinic fundraiser in addition to an internal promotion to benefit the Wild West Multiple Sclerosis Walkabout (August 20th-22nd), an event which helps benefit those who are stricken by this disease. During the drive students, staff and faculty members pitched in with a unified effort to assist in the effort with a total of over $3,200 dollars were donated.

The Wild West Multiple Sclerosis Walkabout is a 50 mile 3 day walk along the trails of Fort Collins. Each walker is to raise a minimum of $750 through sponsorships. Tom Goehring the Director of Technology Services at IBMC, has a direct interest in this foundation. His son Jonathan was stricken with MS several years ago. Jonathan has received several scholarships directly from the Center for Neurorehabilitation Services CNS Foundation, a beneficiary of this fundraiser.

Wild West MS Walkabout & Multiple Sclerosis Information:

The proceeds of the fundraiser Wild West MS Walkabout will be divided with 20% going to the support the local research and wellness programs of the Colorado Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS). Another 20% will support the Rocky Mountain MS Center. The mission of the Rocky Mountain MS Center is to help people living with MS and their families lead a quality life by providing individualized care, support, education and research.

The remaining 60% will go directly to people in need who live with MS providing items including medical equipment, environmental modifications, ramps, and mobility devices as well as therapy services not covered by other sources

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system (CNS). The CNS consists of the brain, spinal cord, and the optic nerves.  Colorado has one of the highest prevalence rates of multiple sclerosis in the country. One in every 580 Coloradoans lives with MS. In fact, MS is ten times more prevalent in Colorado than it is in the South and the most commonly diagnosed neurological disease in adults ages 20-50. Rick Jennings Promoted to Lead Business Instructor at the New Longmont Campus

The Institute of Business and Medical Careers (IBMC) congratulates faculty member Rick Jennings who has been promoted to the Lead Business Instructor at the new Longmont campus. His position will be effective September 20th, 2010.

Rick has been an instructor at IBMC for over 10 years teaching paralegal courses as well as English, business and marketing classes. Rick is an Attorney with a Juris Doctor from Empire College in Santa Rosa, CA. and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wyoming.  He has practiced law in California and as a Paralegal in Colorado.

Rick will be instrumental in leading IBMC’s instructor team and in guiding our paralegal and business program students to success at the new Longmont campus. He will be a part of the exciting start up of the new branch campus in Longmont.

Charissa Swope promoted to Lead Allied Health Instructor at the Longmont Campus

The Institute of Business and Medical Careers (IBMC) would like to congratulate Charissa Swope in her promotion to Lead Allied Health Instructor at the new Longmont campus. Her new position will be effective the first class start on September 20th at the new branch campus. Charissa is a graduate from IBMC’s Allied Health Medical Assisting Degree program and holds both a RMA and RPT certification.

As a Medical Assistant Charissa has had practical experience in the fields of neurology and oncology at Cancer Center of the Rockies and Centennial Neurology. Charissa has held the position of Full Time Allied Health Instructor at IBMC for the past three years.

Charissa will be a part of the exciting opening of the new campus in Longmont. She will be instrumental in directing the IBMC instructor team and in guiding our Allied Health program students to success at the new Longmont campus.

IBMC Congratulates Jarrod Greene in His Promotion to Lead Allied Health Instructor

The Institute of Business and Medical Careers (IBMC) congratulates Jarrod Greene who has been promoted to Lead Allied Health Instructor for the Greeley Branch Campus, effective August 16, 2010.

Jarrod is a degreed IBMC graduate of the Allied Health Medical Assisting program. He has held positions within the United States Navy from a Leading 2nd Class Hospital Corpsman to an Integrated Environmental & Safety Analyst at NORAD and Watch Specialist at NNMC. Additionally, he has held positions as a Fire Fighter for the town of Eaton and as a Lead Medical Assistant at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He holds both military and civilian education and training certificates ie: Registered Medical Assistant, CPR/ 1st Aid Instructor, Emergency Medical Technician, FEMA Professional Development Series certified, NIMS Certified, Naval and numerous Norad-Northcom certificates.

Jarrod will offer in-depth knowledge and a great variety of medical and emergency preparedness experience to the Allied Health department and students at IBMC.

IBMC Welcomes Jose J. Valdes new Dean of Academic Services

The Institute of Business and Medical Careers (IBMC) welcomes Jose J. Valdes, Jr. as the new Dean of Academic Services, at the main campus in Fort Collins.  Mr. Valdes comes to IBMC with thirty years experience in higher education and the telecommunications industry. He has held positions in Management and as a Director at Colorado State University, Elbert County School District, US West and IBM-Rolm. As an Adjunct Faculty member he taught at Colorado State University, University of Phoenix, Arapahoe Community College and Golden Gate University. He holds professional memberships with the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the Association of Telecommunications Professionals in Higher Education (ACUTA).

Mr. Valdes comes to IBMC with a distinguished academic CV with the following degrees: Doctorate in Education, Community College (Ph.D. Candidate) at Colorado State University; Master of Science Business Administration – Computer Information Systems at Colorado State University; Master in Computer Information Systems, University of Denver; Master in Telecommunications at the University of Denver; Master in Adult/Continuing Education and Higher Education at Colorado University; and a Bachelor of Arts, Spanish and Latin American Studies at Colorado State University.

As the Dean of Academic Services, Mr. Valdes will be responsible for the academic operational support of all IBMC’s programs, in addition to ensuring that the programs design and quality assurance procedures conform to organizational goals. The Dean of Education is to help support programs for student recruitment and assist with supporting innovation and excellence in teaching. Additional duties will include providing support, leadership, oversight and training at each of the IBMC branch campuses.

Mr. Valdes brings his substantial business acumen and accomplishments to his new position at IBMC. His mastery and leadership in tactical strategic planning, operations/project management, and technical training will benefit IBMC’s students and staff.

IBMC Welcomes Barbara Kearns as the New Fort Collins Campus Director

The Institute of Business and Medical Careers (IBMC) welcomes Barbara Kearns as the Fort Collins Campus Director. Mrs. Kerns comes to IBMC with a wealth of experience in higher education. She has held positions as a Campus President, Retention Director, Career Placement Director, and Director of Financial Aid. She has most recently been with Concorde College and Career Education Corporation, where she was involved in the growth initiatives of these multi-campus environments. Mrs. Kearns comes to IBMC with a distinguished academic CV with a Master of Education from Century University, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology (Cum Laude with Highest Distinction) from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

Mrs. Kearns stated, “I am very excited to be joining IBMC and am looking forward to working with the staff and students. I value the education provided to the students at IBMC and will be involved in facilitating the growth of the school.”

As the Fort Collins Campus Director, Mrs. Kearns will be responsible for the administration of all departments, managing the facility, and in the retention of students and staff. She will be involved in developing and growing the college and ensuring campus compliance within regulatory standards. Mrs. Kearns brings substantial education acumen and accomplishments to her new position at IBMC. Her mastery and leadership in strategic planning, fiscal management, retention and operations will benefit IBMC’s students and staff.

Steve Steele, President of IBMC stated “I am very pleased that Barbara Kearns will be stepping into the role of Campus Director. As we continue to grow as a college it is important that the Fort Collins campus has a leader who will foster the success of our students and staff.”

IBMC Caring Individuals…Changing Lives

At the Institute of Business and Medical Careers our students live very full lives. Not only do they work hard in class  many of them have a family to take care of and a job to hold down while attending IBMC. We wanted to catch a glimpse of life for IBMC students so we started to loan students a Flip video camera to do a little bit of documenting.

The Institute of Business & Medical Careers is a school that is serious about life changing career education but we also know when to let our hair down and have a little bit of fun. Recently IBMC got a new jingle to help with our marketing efforts. The marketing team was very excited to introduce the jingle to the staff and students of IBMC so they wanted to present it in a creative way. What better way than to have a handful of students make a little music video?

Tara Bernhardt is our new Adjunct Instructor at the Fort Collins campus.  She loves food, ecspecially cheeseburgers!  She considers herself a cheeseburger and french fry expert.  She received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Front Range Community College.  She also received her Basic Life Support/CPR Instructor from Aims Community College.  We are excited to have her on board as she bring a wealth of knowledge to our students at IBMC.
